The Closure of the Rooms in Medford
In December of 2009, it was apparent to the Board of the Healing Rooms
in Medford that financially we could not sustain the $1600 per month
rent at the Century Building - our headquarters for ministry over the
past nine years. The economic woes resulted in reduced donations for
the healing rooms. Two decisions became evident. First, that we would
have to move out of the Century Building by March 31. Secondly, that
Executive Director Steve Philo would have to pursue full-time work to
cover family expenses. Steve decided to take a sabbatical from the healing
rooms to release time for a job search. The sabbatical was for an indefinite
time. Steve began his sabbatical on January 1, 2010. Other leadership
came on board to provide spiritual oversight of the team members in
Steve's absence. By March 1 there was much confusion with so many major
changes going on. Steve came back from his sabbatical to oversee the
move out of the Century Building and oversee administrative needs during
the transition. As planned, all the equipment was moved out of the Century
Building by March 31.
How We Are Viewing This Season of Transition
We have "pushed the pause button" on the healing rooms ministry
for a period of three months. Our 501c3 status remains in effect over
the next three months. This three month period is for prayer, waiting
on the Lord, and rest. We are viewing this season as a season of transition.
We believe that God may have a redirection for us or a different "wine
skin" for us that will contain the new work of the Holy Spirit
in the days ahead. As vines must be pruned and cut back in order to
experience new growth and greater fruitfulness, so God has "pruned
back" the healing rooms in Medford to assure greater fruitfulness.
During this season, our roots are to go deeper into God. A prophetic
word was given to us stating, "bury this ministry in a tomb of
prayer." This is a call for radical worship and intimacy with our
Lord - because that is our primary calling; and, such a relationship
is vital for the challenges ahead of us as followers of Jesus. This
is a difficult time for the healing rooms but a necessary time.
